My First Hackathon - Water YYC Helper
I had a wonderful opportunity to participate in my first hackathon with Atharva Naik, Rishabh R., and Sarthak Sharan. Hack Your Learning Hackathon at the University of Calgary had over 70 students competing. After 24 hours of rapid prototyping, brainstorming, coding, and presentation, we placed 1st in the General category with our project Water-Movement-YYC-Helper.
Canada, a country known for having one of the largest freshwater reserves in the world, still sees populations that do not have access to this invaluable and essential commodity. Operations and Maintenance was found to be one of the most valuable areas to invest in to improve the longevity and integrity of water facilities.
Our solution was to create an online interactive platform where Indigenous operators can connect with each other and with Subject Matter Experts to find specific equipment training, determine how to troubleshoot issues, and share lessons learned. I learned a lot about web development skills throughout the hackathon and had an amazing opportunity to meet new people while working on our project!
